Terms of Service
Last updated: July 19, 2026
NexQL is a free, MIT-licensed PostgreSQL extension for VS Code, with optional paid Sponsor and Singularity plans. These Terms cover the nexql.astrx.dev website, the paid checkout/licensing backend, and the optional Cloud Sync and hosted AI features. They're written to be short and readable — if anything is unclear, email support@astrx.dev.
1. Who runs NexQL
NexQL is developed and operated by astrx.dev (GitHub: dev-asterix). In these Terms, "we", "us", and "NexQL" refer to astrx.dev acting as the operator of this website and backend services. We're an independent developer project, not a large company — if you ever need a human, email works.
2. The extension is free and open source
The core NexQL extension (VS Code Marketplace / Open VSX) is MIT-licensed and free forever — notebooks, database explorer, AI assist (including zero-config NexQL Free AI), schema tools, and safety controls. Source is public at github.com/dev-asterix/NexQL under the MIT license, which governs your right to use, modify, and redistribute the code independently of these Terms.
3. Paid plans (Sponsor / Singularity)
Sponsor and Singularity are optional paid subscriptions that unlock extra features (schema diff, unlimited saved queries, cloud sync, higher AI usage limits, priority support). They are billed monthly or annually, in INR or USD, and renew automatically until cancelled. Current pricing is shown on the pricing page.
4. Payments
All payments are processed by Razorpay, a licensed payment aggregator that supports Indian and international cards/currencies. We never see or store your full card number — Razorpay handles that per their own security and compliance standards (PCI-DSS). After a successful payment, we receive a license key that activates your plan in VS Code.
5. Cancellations & refunds
You can cancel anytime from the license management screen (or by emailing us your license key). Cancelling stops future renewals; by default your plan stays active until the end of the billing period you already paid for. You may also request an immediate cancellation, which ends access right away.
We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods, unused time, or change-of-mind cancellations. If you believe you were charged in error (e.g. a duplicate charge or a billing bug), email support@astrx.dev with your license key and we'll look into it.
6. Acceptable use
- Don't attempt to bypass, share, or resell license keys or the free-tier usage limits.
- Don't use the hosted AI gateway or Cloud Sync to store or transmit unlawful content.
- Don't attempt to overwhelm, scan, or attack the API backend.
We may suspend access for accounts that violate these terms or abuse shared infrastructure.
7. AI features
NexQL Free AI (zero-config) and the "bring your own key" providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, GitHub Models, VS Code Language Model API) generate SQL, explanations, and optimizations from the prompts and schema context you send. When you use your own API key, that provider's own terms and privacy policy govern how they handle your data — NexQL is just the client. See our Privacy Policy for what NexQL itself stores about AI usage (short version: usage counts for metering, not your prompt content).
8. Cloud Sync (paid feature)
Cloud Sync is opt-in and lets Sponsor/Singularity users sync connection profiles, saved queries, and notebooks across devices. Database passwords are never included — credentials stay local via VS Code's encrypted Secret Storage. If your paid plan lapses, synced data is retained for 30 days and then purged; see the Privacy Policy for details.
9. Database safety — use your own judgment
NexQL includes safety features (environment labels, risk scoring for destructive statements) as a convenience, not a guarantee. You are responsible for the SQL you run against your databases, including anything generated or suggested by AI. Always review generated queries before running them against production data.
10. No warranty, limitation of liability
NexQL is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, astrx.dev is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including data loss — arising from your use of the extension, website, or backend services.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product changes. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above; continued use after a change means you accept the update.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, where our payment processor Razorpay is licensed and regulated. We welcome customers worldwide — Razorpay supports international cards and both INR and USD billing.
